Making it all happen

Bringing the Dorset Seafood Festival back to Weymouth Harbour has taken a coordinated effort behind the scenes, with strong support from Dorset Council, alongside Weymouth Town Council and the harbour team.

Dorset Council has worked closely with organisers to enable the return to the harbour, recognising both the cultural and economic value of the festival to the town.

Cllr Richard Biggs, Dorset Council’s Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Property and Assets and Economic Growth, said:

“The Dorset Seafood Festival has long been part of what makes Weymouth special, and it’s great to see it returning to the harbour. It brings in £3.5million to the local economy so it is important that we support the festival’s homecoming and to work alongside the organisers to bring it back to the heart of the town.”

Weymouth Town Council has also played an important role in supporting the event’s return, alongside the harbour team, whose input has been central to making the logistics work in an active, working port.

In particular, the support of Harbour Master Ed Carter and his team has been instrumental, helping to balance the needs of the fishing fleet, harbour users and the festival itself.
